Promises to keep

Sweater: Urban Outfitters, Dress: Anthro, Boots: Clark's, Necklace: Linkel Designs

I swore to myself when I bought this dress on sale that I would find ways of wearing it in autumn, too. So that's what I did today, because it was just barely warm enough to get away with a dress, provided you wore two pairs of tights with it.

And now I will ask my husband's favourite question, do I look fat in this? Because the sweater was so loose over the dress, I folded it up in the back and belted it in place... and now that I'm looking at the pictures, I'm starting to wonder if I look a tad pregnant? Either way, I felt great when I was wearing this, and really, that what matters.

Neutral and Neon

Brushed Terra Dress: Deletta, Cardigan: J.Crew, Boots: Anthro, Tights: American Apparel

I'm pretty sure my tights rivalled the leaves the day I wore this! My favourite dress in the world, this is such a great backdrop for any crazy colour I want to throw on it. And neon yellow seems to be my new favourite colour. As a child, I hated yellow and wouldn't even eat cheese because it was yellow - and now look at me!    I even bought a yellow watch this summer! Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the most eye-searingly bright thing of them all? Why yes, thank you - that would be moi. Merci.

Also, my love affair with these boots continues apace. They are just too awesome for words, even if my feet are starting to hurt a little from wearing them non-stop. Much as it saddens me, I may be taking a break from them this weekend!

Blazers are the New Cardigans!

Blazer: Anthro (on sale! Now!), Top: J.Crew, Jeans: AG Stevies, Boots: Anthro

I stole the idea for this outfit here, from one of my new favourite blogs ever. Anyone who also owns these crazy jeans and gives me ideas on how to style them - I salute you. By the way, these jeans are pink, right? I see them described as "purple" everywhere, but to me, they're the pink of old faded photographs, the kind that have been coloured in by hand.

This blazer was the only thing I purchased from the massive Anthro sale that's going down in London right now. There was seriously nothing else I wanted (well, aside from this, but that doesn't count since I didn't pay for it), which was good, but strange. Maybe I'm hopping on the "Anthro's gone off the rails" bandwagon and saying the brand's just getting a little too strange for its own good?

Anyways, I'd been wanting a striped blazer since forever, and I think I'll get a lot of mileage out of this one, freezing temperatures or no. I love blazers - blazers are the new cardigans. Now there's a slogan for you!

Osaka Style!

Cardigan: UniQlo, old. Dress: Deletta, old. Top: Tulip Lace shell, Anthro. Watch + boots: Anthro.

No, my post title does not in any way refer to Gangnam Style. For shame!

When we went to Osaka this summer, the first thing we were struck by was how
beautifully dressed the women are. Every outfit was so tastefully put together, and my husband and I took turns pointing out good ones to each other. (Not with actual pointing though, that would be rude.)
And I noticed a lot of women wore a variation of this - a lace shell over a striped dress, sometimes paired with nude pink items, too. I'd been dying to recreate this look, and when my husband bought me the Tulip Lace Shell as a present, then hey presto. I like it!

Pretty as this ensemble is, I still had to wear a bright neon yellow watch with it. Just because.

Boots! Amazing boots!

Cardigan: H&M. Top: Sunless Rose Top, Skirt: Trench Coat Skirt, both Anthro. Boots: Meander Moto Boots, Anthro.

So I must have finally gone completely insane, because I went and got boots at Anthro. No, I didn't have to sell one of my kidneys, but it came close. However, these are the most amazing boots in the world, so not being able to buy anything else for a looong time seems like a small price to pay. Normally, I have to walk in shoes at home for a few weeks, but these guys were instantly comfortable and I was wearing them outside the same day I got them. I've actually never owned ankle boots before, and all I can say is, what a fantastic invention! So easy to take off and put on.

I like how the bright red cardigan contrasts against all the dark colours in my outfit - a bit like the red leaves on the trees, right? And I love those boots with that belt... I'm sure we haven't seen the last of this combination! Also, I should add that I'm not pregnant. It's just the skirt, it does this weird bulge thing.
Now, only one question remains: Would it be weird of me to sleep in these boots? Yeah, thought so...

Noodle-time!

Dress: Winona chemise, Anthro, Belt: UniQlo, Sandals: Timberland

And in another bolt of Japan nostalgia, I decided to post my favourite outfit from the whole trip, i.e. the one that was the most comfortable to walk around in in 35 degrees Celsius heat. Now that I look at it, I look like an extra from one of those old Bible movies, like that one where Charlton Heston played Moses!

These pictures were taken at the Nissin Cup Noodle factory, where we had just made our own cup noodles - you can see mine in the plastic bag thingie I'm carrying. And the thing behind me is a model of what the inside of a cup noodle looks like. Not to scale, obviously, although eating a cup noodle bigger than a human being might be a special dream of my husband's...

Coral, Mustard and Mint

Cardigan: UniQlo, Top: Springfield, Skirt: J.Crew (all old), Shoes: from Norway

For me, this little work outfit was all about the colours. I got the idea from two pictures I came across on the all mighty Pinterest, so it's not so much "two-for-one" as "two-at-once". One was a picture of a mustard skirt/coral cardigan combination, the other paired mustard and a sort of faded minty colour. I really like how it came out, looking all vintage-y and 1940's like! Not to mention that any excuse to wear my (mustard!) flatforms is one I'll embrace like a child hugging the bejeezus out of a cat!

Dress, Meet Dresser

Charlotte Taylor Dress: Anthro via Ebay, Cardigan: Zara, Shoes: Urban Outfitters

Welcome to our messy little home - which will hopefully be a lot less messy now that we have this dresser to put all our stuff in. I restored it myself, and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. Inspired by a d.i.y. post  on Effortless Anthropologie, I decided to paint the drawers in varying shades of green, and the result looks pretty rad, I think! The knobs are from Anthro, and they cost more than the paint, haha!

This last photo is my favourite - with the two candlesticks on either side of me like that, I look like a picture from the Cool Witch Tarot Deck! (Which I swear exists, and is hilarious.)

Hippie Library Girl

Hat: Anthro, Top & Cardigan: J.Crew, Skirt: Anthro via Ebay, boots: Clark's.

Isn't my hair all pretty and flicky in the third picture? Good hair days are always welcome!

I felt a bit like a librarian today, since I was sort of wearing an improvised twinset. If you don't know what a twinset is, it's a matching top and cardigan combo, and since these two were both that mysterious J.Crew colour known as Burnt Twig, they kind of fit the bill. Anyway, I'd be one of those hippie librarians with an adventurous past, who's secretly writing a novel set in Paris and hiding the manuscript pages in the filing box where they keep the index cards.

This entire outfit is really a testament of thanks to my friend Grace, who has received all my American internet purchases over the years and sent them on to me in the UK. Those include almost every J.Crew item I own (three out of the four!), and this here skirt, which I love to distraction. That girl is just plain awesome.

Magical shoes.

Top: Deletta, Skit: Monsoon, Shoes: Urban Outfitters

I very intelligently decided to put the camera on the ground when I took these pictures. As a result I got some really awesome shots up my own nostrils, and you can't really see the chesty bit of the top, but I assure you it's orange lace. You have to trust me on this one.

These shoes, by the way, are amazing. Normally I have to break heels in over weeks, but I got them in the post the day before yesterday and they just sort of molded themselves around my feet. New shoes, I think I love you.

Nostalgia

Top: Deletta, Skirt: Cath Kidston, Belt: UniQlo, Lion: Osamu Tezuka.

Today was induction day at my new job, and since we had to look "extremely smart" my work outfit was the most boring thing I've worn in my entire life. So instead, I present more photos from Japan. Ah, how I miss you Japan! You were awesome, and I am feeling nostalgic.

Speaking of which, is there anything more nostalgic than Tezuka's Kimba The White Lion? Although every time I looked at him, I kept thinking how Disney must have plagiarized it when they made Lion King - I mean, Kimba/Simba? They even look the same!
