Catalogical

Scarf: Zine Bosnia, Sweater: Thrifted, Belt: Anthro, Skirt: Meadow Rue, Boots: old.

I like the term "catalogical", which I just invented as a matter of fact. It reminds me of the word "pathological", which could certainly describe my relationship with the items in the catalogue shoot for this skirt. And the single-mindedness with which I sale-stalked them - well except for the skirt, which was purchased with a gift card from Anthro and a massive promotional discount after that whole shelf thing.

Anyway, I love this version of the skirt + sweater outfit and will no doubt repeat it many, many times. It makes me feel kind of feisty, like Maid Marian or something! And this sweater was thrifted, you guys! Thrifted in Norway, where I scored so many good things in the one trip to the thrift store that it just blew. My. Mind. Remarkably, although it is a mighty beast of a sweater, the tag informs me it's a size small. Like, seriously? Well, they do say Norway is the land of giants... I tried it without the belt, but I definitely like this look better belted.

Oh, and how fabulous are the laces in my ancient-but- as-yet-unblogged boots, eh? They are super sparkly, and I picked them up for something like 200 yen in Harajuku, on our honeymoon in Tokyo five years ago. Now that's a good investment!

Budapest in Widescreen

I realise I haven't posted anything in forever, but no, I didn't die - I just went to Budapest with my husband. It's the most magical city, sliced neatly in half by the river - we stayed on the Pest side, but on walked across the chain bridge to the Buda to check out the National Gallery - the huge sprawling building in the last photo. We did so much cool stuff - went to the thermal baths where we swam and soaked in the different mineral pools, watched a ballet about Don Quixote and pigged out on lovely Hungarian food.

I have to add though, I didn't pig out quite as much as that first picture makes it look like. That was just an open jacket and a bad angle. I mean seriously, it looks like my jacket is trying to eat Victor's jacket here:

And yes, I'm carrying a banana around. All the cool kids are doing it, didn't you know that?

My Feisty Valentine

Cardigan: J.Crew outlet, Shirt: White Stuff, Jeans: AG Stevies,
Necklace: F21, Boots: Jasper &  Jeera, Belt + scarf: from Hong Kong

My jacket is by Cartonnier, by the way ;)

So this is my extremely late Valentine's Day outfit, idea stolen from this lovely lady. The leopard scarf and boots make this outfit kind of feisty, no? I wore it to the teppanyaki restaurant for our Valentine's celebration, and so those clothes still stink of smoke. What, I haven't washed them yet - I've been busy! Don't judge me...

So Valentine's Day is a bit of a big deal (a medium sized deal?) for my husband and me since it was the day we officially became a couple. After watching a performance of MacBeth with a lot of fake blood, he walked me to my bus stop, and then we sat there, both thinking that this was it. If we were going to get together, it had to be tonight. We probably thought this at the exact same moment, because that first kiss was kind of epic. It literally went on for minutes, and at the end of it, Victor gasped, "See, now you're just trying to eat me!"

We watched eight of my buses go by while we kissed like there was no tomorrow, before I finally had to go home. That was seven years ago! Time sure flies when you're having fun with the man you love!

Two Halves of a Whole

Cardigan: J.Crew, Shirt: Gap, Skirt: UniQlo, old, Boots + Belt: Anthro

You realise you think of someone as your other half when...

So, Victor and I are sitting around. He's sitting on the floor, leaning against the sofa, one arm wrapped around my leg as he plays with his phone. I'm sitting on the sofa, blow-drying my hair. In the middle of my blow-dry, I realise I have an itch at the top of my head, so I reach over... and scratch Victor's head. Completely without thinking. He looked up in surprise, I told him, and we had a laugh about it, but now?

Now I can't decide whether this is funny, cute or just plain creepy.

Neon Jackie!

Necklace: J.Crew, Cardigan: J.Crew Outlet, Shirt: H&M, Jeans: Old Navy, Boots: Jasper & Jeera.

Continuing the Jackie cardigan parade that was interrupted by my fabulous new shoes, I give you my favourite out of all my Jackies so far - the neon yellow one. For some reason I am obsessed with this colour lately and wearing it in the murky darkness of winter really puts a spring in my step. Perhaps it corresponds with one of my chakras or something? You know, the yellow one? My friend is lending me a book on the subject, so I will find out soon!

So I feel a little bit like Molly from Anthromollogies here, with my bright colours and gingham + Jackie combo. That's where I nicked the idea for this outfit, to be honest. I love her zesty style, it makes me feel like I'm not crazy after all for wanting to wear bright colours every day!

Since my bright outfit actually outshines my super sparkly necklace, have a close-up:

There ya go, sparkles, gingham and some hair! Who says I'm not a classy lady, eh?

Feels Like Menswear.

Jacket: Cartonnier, Sweater: Zara, Shirt: Gap, Jeans: AG's, Shoes: Pilcro.

These shoes! My reward for completing a particularly odious and life-consuming piece of work - aren't they fabulous? Aren't they kind of manly, but in a super cute way? Especially when paired with these socks I got at the Sock Exchange on Pier 39 in San Francisco. Now I realise that you're supposed to wear them with no socks whatsoever, but it's winter over here and that's not going to happen. My Starbucks drink went cold the minute I stepped out of Starbucks, even though I'd had it made into my special thermal Starbucks mug! Now that's what I call cold. So the socks stay on.

This outfit feels a lot like menswear because I'm also wearing Victor's sweater that I shrank in the wash. First, he bought the sweater and washed it on 60 degrees, shrinking it to child size. Then he re-bought it, and I washed it on 40 degrees, shrinking it to my size. (Did I feel guilty? You bet I did. Doesn't change the fact that it's mine now.) It's like there's a curse or something on that sweater. He's chosen not to buy a third one...

Orange you glad?

Scarf: H&M, old, Cardigan: J.Crew, old Shirt: Anthro, old, Shoes, Urban Outfitters.

Let's take a moment together and groan at my bad pun, shall we? It's not like we've ever heard it before, right? Anyway, here's my orange, sorry, burnt cinnamon, Jackie cardigan. I've probably blogged it before, but here I am trying to line up all my Jackies in a row, so to speak. (More puns?!)

Please don't ask me what's up with my hair in these pictures, because I honestly couldn't tell you. I mean, when I went outside to snap these, I was perfectly convinced I was having a good hair day. Just goes to show, huh ...Also, these shoes look orange in person. I swear! But I looked at the photos and I was all, "Are they actually red? Was I having a really bad hair day? Am I nuts?"

Zombielegs!

Cardigan: J.Crew, Dress: Deletta, Boots: Clark's, Belt: UniQlo, Scarf: Zine Bosnia

Awesomest conversation ever between my brother and me at the airport last week:
Me: That's a nice parka! Is it new?
Him: Yes, the hood's lined with real fur! Nice scarf by the way!
Me, smugly: Yeah, it was made by a women's collective in Bosnia.
Him, shamefaced: Oh.

Well it was, you know! It's my little souvenir from Anthro in Las Vegas. So I read in either Lucky Magazine or the American version of Glamour (don't judge, I did a lot of airplane time) that you should try wearing three jewel tones at once. Also, this cute outfit was fresh in my memory, so I decided to do my own version of the triple jewel tones (complete with pink bag, which I forgot to photograph) for date night with Victor. I swapped out the tights as soon as I saw these photos, though - I mean, hello zombie legs! And nobody wants to see zombie legs on a Friday night, you know?
