Home Tour: Living Room Edition

Hello, and welcome to our little flat! I ended up just taking pictures of the living room today. I figure, if I do one room at a time, I can take some pictures of the little details as well as the room as a whole. Also, I haven't cleaned the kitchen, and our guest bedroom has stuff all over the floor, not to mention there are tweaks to the bathroom and the loo that I need to get on to...

We have the best view from the living room, but the sun was so bright when I took these pictures that it didn't come out. That's why I gave you the view from the balcony in the end there. Also, we are supposed to get a huge shelving unit for the far wall - this is Victor's little pet project - but for now, we have a small bookshelf, crammed to the brim. Because if I don't have books in the living room, I start feeling weird - books are just so comforting, you know?

I have so many little favourite details in this room, from the wolf cushions to the green and yellow blanket knitted for my birthday by one of my closest friends. And my collection of little Norse gods made out of  what feels a lot like lead, but is probably pewter. Hehe. Also, the only picture currently on display - there will be more later - is an old friend, a poster from a long-ago exhibition I went to at the Tate Modern. I had to break my own rule and finish the post with an upright closeup, because this woman's head by Constantin Brancusi is just so beautiful that it turns my heart to mush.

  1. Freaking Awesome!!!! I love the blue wall paired with the brown and the pastel chairs. Also loving the mid century vibe! That is my favorite style. Freddy's too. We keep fantasizing about buying a place and decorating it mid century modern. You and Victor are living out our fantasy. So cool! I am also crazy of the unexpected details like your light switch and wolf pillows! You must be having so much fun. The view is spectacular too! Woo hoo!

    1. Aw Cynthia, thank you so much! That really means a lot to me. Also because your comment is perfect validation against Victor, when he says my choices are a bit "out-there"! ;) That's really cool about you and Freddy liking the exact same aesthetic, we are interior design soul mates it seems! And we outnumber Victor three to one! I really wanted to put together an "adult" apartment, without losing sight of our personalities and having it be too streamlined. For instance, I have *always* loved wolves, ever since reading ElfQuest as a kid. And it was Victor who picked out the wall stickers for the light switches - we have a few! Both dogs and cats... sorry if I'm making you jealous now! He found them in a home goods store called Franc Franc in Hong Kong, and was all, "Honneeee!", poring over them like a little kid collecting baseball cards!

    2. Oh yeah - the great thing about your "out there" choices are that you are able to meld them into your aesthetic in such a smooth way. Your place looks unique and personal rather than what Victor may think is weird. I went looking for those stickers and found all kinds of crazy ones.

  4. It turned out SOOOOOOOOO AMAZING! I love the color you chose for the walls. I love those chairs. The couch. The pillows! Everything looks so good and truly thought out and perfect. I would love to hang out with you there. It looks like a beautiful cozy loving home.

You are so creative! I love it!

Ona side note, your blog sidebar has creeped its way into the middle of the page. Is it just me? Just wanted to let you know.

    Your light switch is rad!

    1. Thanks so much, hon. I hope to have you kicking back on our sofa at some point! It *is* getting cosy, cosier by the day. I'm happy our personalities seem to be coming across through our stuff! The walls are so bare, still - it'll be just perfect when we can finally hang pictures!

Oh, and I know about the side bar thing - not sure how to fix it, except by putting up a new post with upright photos! ;) I just haven't been able to take any for ages. :(

PS The light switch - those stickers are from an Asian company, I think they're called Wall Stories? They were very cheap, we got some in Tokyo and some in Hong Kong. :)

  6. I've so been looking forward to this post! Everything looks great! It seems that you and I share the trait of our fashion sense translating into our home decor and vice versa. I definitely see the "Gwen" in this space. Your pastel chairs turned out fabulous! They add such a great punch of color to the room.

Like me, it seems that you like to display your little whimsies and curiosities. They add such character and charm to a room, don't you think? I definitely noticed Athena and how she looks exactly like the one in our Nashville Parthenon!

I'm also a big fan of the wolf pillow. It's a perfect representation of your ferocious sense of humor: swift and sharp.

I've been in need of a living room refresh, myself. I just picked up a pair of pillows and a fuzzy mint blanket from Nordstrom rack. My next project is a set of long shelves on which to display all my pictures and paintings. This has been my next project for months. Kyle is not as keen to get started on it as I am. I should just order the shelves. He won't be able to ignore their huge honking boxes. I should lay them across his side of the bed as a subtle hint. lol

Love how things are coming together! I hope you're having fun with it!

    1. Thanks, hon! Hopefully I'll have you and Kyle over for a visit sometime, eh? ;)

I love your take on my wolf pillows! Truth is, I've been kind of obsessed with wolves since my early teens. And how awesome that you noticed our Athena! I spent my last US dollars on that statue! Another favourite that I've dug out since then is our little letter train from a German Christmas market. You're supposed to spell your kid's names with those letters, only then Victor shouted, "Honey - we could make a GRAVEY-train!" So now there is a poor traumatised German lady out there who thinks we named our child Gravey. ;)

As for Kyle and the shelves, how's that coming along? ;) Your style of subtle hinting sounds very similar to Victor's, actually... I hope you get them up soon, then your new place is bound to feel more like it's yours! :)

  7. Wow! I love the cool and comfortable colors of your living room with the contrast between the blues and the browns. The vintage vibe also appealed to me, as with the myriad decor pieces and accents you've incorporated. Your aesthetic is very rad, if I may say so myself. Thank you for sharing those lovely pictures! I hope you're having a great autumn!
