Optimal Coat Conditions

Coat & dress: Anthro, old. Bag & necklace: Madewell. Boots: Doc Martens.

Do you have one of those coats that is amazing, but doesn't get worn that often, because it kind of requires specific weather conditions? This is one of those coats... I mean, I've worn it in the snow before, but because of the short sleeves, and because I now own a really enormous winter parka, it's just been easier to reach for the parka. Know what I mean? But this particular Sunday it was cold, but not too cold, and we were going to an exhibition, so I wanted to look a little bit fancy.

Funny story about the sleeves - can you tell I had them lengthened? No? Well, this is what happens when you have orangutan arms, I guess. Every little helps, though, up here on the frozen British tundras! But I digress...

The exhibition was on Japanese architecture after WWII. There was so much cool stuff, including a full-scale reproduction of the home of this man called Maruyama-san, who had his old house torn down and replaced with what his architect called "a village inside a forest". Lots of tiny little building units, surrounded by slim trees, in the middle of a suburb. So you know, the bedroom is in one tiny unit, and then the kitchen would be in another, and the bathroom in a third... he brushes his teeth in front of a mirror that's propped up between the branches of a tree.

Funny story - at the coat check, they only gave me the one tag. I assumed it was for my coat and my bag, but when I went to pick them up, the girl only gave me my bag. I had to describe the coat, and then she almost wouldn't give it to me! I was asked to describe what was in the pockets, only I knew for a fact they were empty... All I could think of was, "The label says Lauren Moffat!" Then, she finally gave it to me. Seriously... was she hoping to keep this coat for herself? Haha!

He Didn't Get the Memo

Sweater, scarf , hat & bag: Madewell, all old. Jeans: AG Stevie via Anthro, old.
Bookbag: Cath Kidston, old. I SENSE A THEME HERE.

We went to Notting Hill this Saturday, where all the pretty pastel houses live. I jumped in front of this most perfect lilac specimen, yelling, "Victor! Take my picture!" He didn't seem to have ever gotten the memo that when you take blog photos of your wife, you make sure to get their feet in the picture, Or that I wanted more of that lilac house in the frame - not that the green door isn't pretty, I guess!

Otherwise, our day was pretty perfect - because, see that book bag I'm holding with my jacket and sunnies? That bookbag contains a very satisfying comics haul from the second-hand bookstore just off the main road. And let me tell you, I walked out of there with a gem I hadn't even hoped to find - book one of my favourite Deadpool writer's return to writing Deadpool. This time, 'Pool has teamed up with Spiderman (who hates him), and it was so funny, I had to stop reading it on the train back - people would've thought I was el nutso...

Bundle Up

Hat: Topshop, Jacket: Hand-me-down, from Norway, Sweater: Urban Outfitters,
Jeans, bag & scarf: Madewell, Sneaks: Superga

It's been quite a week. I have to admit I feel weird about sitting here writing my blog post just days after there was another terrorist attack here in the city I've come to call home. I'm all right, and so is everyone I know, but wow... What a swine, eh? I promised myself a long time ago I wouldn't swear on the internets in case some future employer comes across this blog. So "swine" will have to do - though anyone who deliberately mows their car through school children is more than a swine.

Anyway. It's cold again over here, so I've been bundling up in this enormous sweater I found at Urban Outfitters a while ago. (When I say enormous, I mean it - I am wearing a size small, here.) And I realised that it would be an almost perfect match with my suede baseball cap and brand new rosegold sneakers - which I bought because they'd match the rose-gold zipper of my bomber jacket perfectly. (Yes, I am insane.) I'm not even sure if this outfit is flattering, but at the time I was super into it, so here you go! Hopefully it will be warm enough soon to wear the shoes with the bomber jacket, so I can fully revel in this shiny combo.

Blossoms and Petals

Jacket: Anthropologie, Skirt: Chickwish, Sweatshirt, bag & shoes: Madewell.

It's become a bit of a tradition, it seems, to get my picture taken under these trees, in this matching skirt, once every spring. Last year, I paired it with stripes, so this year, I mixed it up with my favourite sweatshirt and new bomber jacket instead (more on that in a minute). It's finally spring over here, and the blossoms are just exploding on trees all over town. Finally!

So, this bomber jacket! It figures that after Cynthia and I agreed that Anthro has jumped the shark, I would spot this jacket in there while looking for a mug for my friend, and fall in love. Go home without the jacket, google it, and realize the price wasn't actually that bad. That I could afford this thing. Then go to Norway on personal business, where I'd be met with a whole Bildungsroman's worth of trouble and strife, and promptly buy myself the jacket as soon as I got back to London. Because I deserved it, or something.

But anyway, it was totally an investment, because 1: Bomber jackets are the new hot item for spring, and 2: Blush pink is the new hot colour for spring. So BAM, that's like nailing two trends in the one item! I'm practically saving money here! (Sarcasm.) But more importantly, I really like this jacket. Wearing it puts a spring in my step, and it goes really well with the rest of the stuff in my closet. This won't be the last time you see this jacket - prepare to get sick of it!
